I can laugh now, but I’m not going to pretend that it didn’t hurt.
So last night I’m running out of my building when two girls who were in their early 20s at most got on the elevator with me. We get to the lobby, where there are a couple of very heavy doors to the street, and BECAUSE THAT IS HOW I WAS RAISED I do the thing where you swiftly maneuver around so you can hold both open. They each made a big show of saying “Thank you,” which was nice, but as they went east and I went west I heard one say to the other, “I told you, old guys are the only ones with manners these days.”
